Introducing Seth

The big day finally came. Our family has grown again. Seth Brian Price was born on Aug. 26 at 2:05pm. He was 8 lbs. 4.5 oz and was 20 in. long. We are excited to have him in our family.

But before we get too ahead of ourselves, let's start at the beginning.

We arrived at the hospital at 6:00am to have Lesley induced. Her doctors were a little worried about the placenta since Hannah's had calcified, and tests showed that the fluids were lower than they should be. It wasn't at a dangerous level yet, but we didn't want to wait too much longer to be safe.

Here's Lesley describing the situation.

It may not show in the video, but she was a little nervous because she was planning on doing it naturally. I knew she would be just fine, though.

Of course, they didn't start the pitocin until 8:30 or so, so we had a lot of waiting time. She was having some contractions, but they were so small that she could either not feel them or barely feel them. Around 12:30 she was only dilated to a 3, so they decided to increase the pitocin and break her water. That got the ball rolling, to say the least. Hard, painful contractions started quickly, and were only 2-3 minutes apart. Even worse, the pain wasn't really decreasing between contractions, so it quickly became unbearable. I kept wanting to call the nurses in, but she refused to let me, and when she finally let me they were all occupied with a couple of unplanned C-sections and so it took a long time for anyone to arrive.

Once they arrived, we explained the situation. Lesley didn't think she could hold out any longer and might need an epidural, but we had the nurse check how dilated she was. Turns out she was almost at a 10, so it was almost time to push. This caused a new problem, since our midwife was not at the hospital. They quickly tried to contact her while telling Lesley not to push. She held off even though it was extremely difficult and painful.

When the midwife arrived, she finally was able to push. It only took about 10 minutes of pushing to get the baby out. Our new baby was born at 2:05. If you paid attention, you'll notice that it only took about an hour and a half for her to get from a 3 to having the baby. I am so proud of her for being so strong and making it through all the pain without medication or nurses to help. She is the best!

Sorry I don't have any videos or images of the intense part of labor, but I'm pretty sure she would have murdered me if I tried.

Finally, our baby boy was born! He was a big baby with a full head of hair. The nurses went to work getting him cleaned up.

Mom finally got to enjoy her new baby boy.

Isn't he cute.

Mom and Dad love their new son.

Of course, Lesley acts like it was this hard, painful thing, but I think she really just wanted to sit back and enjoy some pampering.

We were excited to have Hannah come and meet her new brother. We were also a little worried that she might not take it well. To help her out, we made a big deal about her when Grandpa and Grandma Turner arrived with her. We left Seth in his bassinet and gave her all the attention when she arrived. But she quickly noticed the baby and wanted to check him out.

Hannah, Grandpa, and Grandma had a great time meeting Seth.

The hospital was nice, but it gets tiring as they keep coming in to do tests and have forms filled out and such. So it was nice when Lesley and Seth could get dressed and we could go home.

Here's Seth in his carseat on the drive home. Lesley didn't get a picture of it in time, but it looks like we got a glimpse of the type of driver Seth will be in the future. According to Lesley, once we got on the freeway, he raised his hand up to the window and extended his middle finger. :-0

Here we get home.

Hannah continues to bond with her new brother now that we are home.
